Shadow is a 2 year old female Congo African Grey. She loves to play on her tree and say her name. Shadow also loves to keep all the other birds in line by telling them to knock it off when they start screeching. Shadow is a bit of a prankster. If I'm on the computer, she'll quietly sneak down to the branch closest to my head and pull my hair and then say "ow" and then laugh at me in my voice!

Name of bird: Boo Deja 'vu
Species: Congo African Grey
Age: 14 years (Hatch date is April 19, 1995)
Interesting Characteristics: Boo had a rough start in life. His leg was broken by his mom helping him out of the shell as he was hatching. We had picked him out, named him and visited him weekly before we found out his leg was in such bad shape. We decided to keep him no matter what and that was one of the best decisions my family has ever made. The breeder took him to a vet and assisted the vet in 4 hours of surgery on his leg. During the surgery his heart stopped 2 times. After the surgery he was in intensive care with a splint on his tiny leg for about 6 weeks. The breeder cared for him and gave him antibiotic shots to stop infection. We thought everything was great until they removed the splint and his leg had been attached sideways. We decided he had been through enough at his young age so we chose to not have any more surgeries. Boo is now 14 years old and as you can see a wonderfully healthy bird. He is able to perch and climb and even hang upside-down with one toe! He enjoys talking, singing, "I loved you the first..." from the movie Paulie, making all kinds of sounds: house alarm beeps, footsteps, finger clicking, burping, water dropping, door knob turning, door opening, microwave sounds, snapping finger to the beat of music and did I say talking: in his sleep,on the phone, asking to talk on the phone, "Boo wanna talk Mawma", commanding the other birds in our flock to, "Be quiet!", requesting food,"Boo want chow chow chow french fries" and drink,"Boo wanna drink clean water", asking, "Boo wanna come out?".
As you can see he is now working on his artist abilities. He is an amazing bird and a Blessing to our family.

Name of bird: Chip
Species: Green-Cheeked Conure
Age: 6 months
Interesting Characteristics: Chip is a very special bird. He was handfed as an only chick and he is very spoiled. He loves to roll around and sleep on his back when he isn't hanging around with his cuddle buddy, a white sock pushed through the side bars that he cuddles up to and goes to sleep. He is quite the entertainer. He says his name, "Chip Chip", "My name is Chip," "Come ere," and a lot of othere things. This photo shows him saying a little prayer.

This is Gherkin. Gherkin is a male Pacific Parrotlet, a 'second home' bird that we acquired in the spring of 2007. At the time we took him in, he was approximately one year old. Gherkin came to us from some pretty horrible conditions. His poorly decorated cage contained nothing sized for a small bird and looked like it had never been cleaned. His only food at the time we saw him was millet, and the small amount of water in his dish was foul beyond belief. The little fellow had plucked his chest and back nearly naked and could not fly for all the feathers that he had chewed off his wings. It's been a long road to get him to trust us. He still won't step up onto a bare hand or finger, but will now readily hop up onto a sleeved arm or offered perch. He has come to love getting his head rubbed as he nestles into the crook of our arm. Although he still picks his feathers (he looks much better now than he did when he first arrived) he has been given a clean bill of health by our vet, so it's simply a matter of habit now. Gherkin has overcome a lot to get to where he is today. Inside that ragged little body we have discovered a real affectionate little guy who wants to be a part of everything we do. He does not chew his wing feathers anymore, is currently fully flighted and just loves to fly. His favourite phrase is "whatcha' doin'?" and he has a collection of small plastic cups that have become favourite toys. We look forward to many more years together as we get to know this precious little bundle of feathers.

This is Skittles, a green naped lorikeet. She died at 4 1/2 years old from heart disease. Skittles was a very smart bird & learned to speak many words and phrases. She knew how to say her name, "Gimme a Kiss", "Good Kiss", "I love you", "wanna go bye-bye - come one, let's go", "night-night, "no", and "good stuff" just to name a few.
She would call the cats and they would come when called. Of course, I would then have to give them treats. When skittles would see me pick up my purse, she would say "comon, let's go". She loved to ride in the car. She loved to lie on her back so you could tickle her tummy. When you would tickle her and stop and ask her if she wanted more..... she would shake her head up and down (yes).
